DNA Testing - a warning to anyone researching their family history!

These days DNA testing is part and parcel of the family history journey. Without it - even with a stack of documents as evidence - it’s pretty much guess work and hope!

With that in mind, it’s important for all those using genetic testing to research their family lineage to understand from the outset what might lie ahead of them, to be prepared for every eventuality, and to manage their expectations accordingly. DNA testing is not for the faint-hearted. It involves real people, who lived real lives, and had real experiences - and there won’t always be a fairytale ending.

However, with the best will in the world, some people come into this method of researching ill-prepared for what they might discover. Even those who’ve been researching their family history for years and amassed a stack of documents to prove it have found genetic testing has upended it in a heartbeat and thrown everything into complete disarray.
