A reflection from the researchers

Seeing the impact of what we find is the most heartwarming part, whether it’s a new understanding of the past, or where relatives are reconnected. We also love to see the excitement where someone has given up all hope of finding something, and then we find a key piece of information that solves the puzzle. Or when we add more to the story - we may know the outcome, but we bring to life with more details.

People genuinely seem pleased with what we do and how the information we uncover is presented to them. Adoptees and Home Children in particular, seem most overwhelmed by how much can be discovered – with DNA testing now completely bypassing outdated rules and regulations on, for example, accessing information about their birth families, which may have hindered them in the past.
